Available Volunteer Positions:
Drop-in/Outreach Volunteer
(Individuals working directly with youth)
This is our most common area to volunteer at The Dam. You become a part of a team that is accountable to each other and that makes a difference by being a presence in the lives of youth. To volunteer directly with youth, we require individuals who have a heart for God and a heart for youth. We ask for a 2 year commitment of roughly 3 hours a week. This allows time for relationships to develop and a consistency that the youth can count on.
Affinity Volunteers (a program for young moms)
Making meals
Every Wednesday the moms have a meal together that is provided by local churches and individuals. This requires the delivery of a meal for up to 10 moms and their children.
Childcare Be part of a team that will invest in giving children a positive, loving experience while their moms are in a program.
Drivers Moms and their children often need to be picked up or dropped off for programs. As well, drivers are sometimes needed to take moms to doctor appointments, etc.
Housing Volunteers
Host Family
Youth who are in a housing crisis fare better if they have stable families in the area who can take them in for a night, a week, or a couple of months. During this time the youth will be in mediation counselling with their families and making plans to live on their own in the future.
Mentors While a youth is estranged from family, time with another adult helps to encourage their continuing in school or in a job.
Volunteering as a Group
A group can come for a one time visit to learn about The Dam and the community, or they can come on a regular basis to communicate to the youth that there are groups in the community who value youth and want to contribute to "their place".
Prayer Volunteers
Each week prayer requests are given to the coordinator, who then will contact you through email (or a phone call) with your one prayer request that you would be responsible to pray for.
Prayer Walks
Throughout the Meadowvale Community are areas that youth walk and hang out in. After being taken on a few walks by a staff to introduce you to the area through the eyes of a youth, you can then incorporate prayer and exercise together.
Administrative
Occasionally help out in the office with mailings or preparing for fundraising events. You would be called to see if you have any time that week to give during the daytime hours.
